I talk to you
I hold you,
Still I wonder
How to make you feel
What I feel about you
I try harder
I fail I just watch you (in despair)
I forget my surroundings & myself
Slowly 'I' vanish I see 'you' all around
Again I try to talk to you
I try to hold you
Again I feel the distance
Again 'I' fail
And I understand

"I" has dual meaning; Myself and ego...
When ego disappears or fails, you are in a better position see, feel and understand the person and relationship... Try again... poems usual don't give up hidden like a young lady... you have to be more persistent...

But why does he fail again after realising the ego thing?

The objective of the poet looks like
"How to make you feel
What I feel about you"
You mean to say.. If my "Ego" dies, The other person can "Feel" like I "Feel".
See, Poet feels the distance between himself and the loved one...
It may be emotional or limitation of all communication medium... When he tries harder to overcome distance, he encounter's his ego...
Then without his understanding or unconsciously he reaches a stage of bliss and oneness with this love (second stanza)
Then again he goes to first stage and he fails again... then he understands that ego has to go... thats where he feel he has understood and exclaims 'I understand'

these 2 lines, is not communication failure..
